In May 2011, Taylor Jones was sitting with his family in Ontario when his mother pulled out an old photo album. Among the hundreds of shots was one of Jones’s younger brother at his third birthday party. “He was sitting in front of his Winnie-the-Pooh birthday cake,” Jones recalls. “It was weird – because my brother was there, in the exact spot he was sitting in in the photograph.”

Jones grabbed his camera and took a shot of the old photograph lined up to match its original location. He posted it and six others on a blog. Within days, the blog, which he later named Dear Photograph, had gone viral. Today, one year later, Dear Photograph has had 10m hits, and been named one of Time magazine’s 10 best sites. It now gets 20,000 hits a day.

These are the different additional modes:

Distance-lapse (Like time-lapse, but takes a photo for every X meters traveled)

Eased Timelapse (Like time-lapse, but with 5 different acceleration profiles built-in, making it appear as if time ‘slows down’ and ‘speeds up’ at the beginnings and ends of your timelapse sets)

Facial Recognition (“Trigger when 3 faces are visible in the picture”)

Magnetic sensor (Like the alarm sensors on doors and windows)

HDR mode (up to 19-bracket HDR sets with configurable EV steps)

Sun rise calculator (calculates the precise time until sunset and sunrise based on your current location)

On the iTunes store there is a free version of Triggertrap Mobile. I used it already for my iPhonecamera and it is fantastic!! It is a limited edition with only 3 different triggermodes: cable release, seismic and timelapse.

This week I’ll order the dongle to connect my D700 with the trigger and upgrade the Trigger Mobile app.

Francesca Woodman (1958-1981) grew up in a family of highly motivated artists. Her mother, Betty Woodman, is a ceramist and her father, GeorgeWoodman, is a painter. Francesca spent the summers of her childhood with her parents and brother in Florence Italy, where she was a little girl wandering in museums and filled her sketchbooks with drawings of women in formal clothing.

Francesca’s parents lived by the principle of “art is hard work” but neverthelessthey were amazed of the ambition of their adolescent daughter who surpassed her parents in the focus and determination. As a seventeen year old girl, Woodman felt in love with photography and soon she developed a complex, mature style. In several of her own pictures she was the model, which they serve as its own model featured in mysterious scenes that took place in derelict interiors. In the years that followed, she moved to New York where she in the art world was seen as promising, but a breakthrough had to wait.Meanwhile, Francesca struggled with depression, a battle that was so heavy that she ended her life in 1981 .

The documentary “Francesca Woodman - Photographer ” is a film about the exceptional talents of Francesca Woodman, whose work now hangs in museums. The film also shows how her parents and her brother deal with the premature death of their daughter and sister and what role her death has played in their own art. It was for them a long and painful process.

Part of her haunting and surreal Works IV, The Drummer was made with 6 lights. Sometimes you need a lot of light to make it appear that you don’t.

Camera: Nikon D2X with 50mm lens, set on tripod 2,4m from the child. Shot at 1/60, f8, ISO 100.

Lighting: Since Loretta’s goal is to create an super-flat image, no key lighting exists. All of the lights are used to flatten the child’s skin tones, while leaving a hint of shadow (under his chin). 2 white umbrellas at f5.6 1/2 are 2m to both camera right and left, and 1,2m above the boy’s head. 2 normal reflectors on a light tree at f4 1/2 are bounced into the white side of a wall in a flat and placed behind camera, just to the right. Another 2, with the exact setup, are just to the left. This helps to fill most of the shadow.

Comments: For lunch, the caterer served fish sticks, chicken strips, carrot strips, apple strips and ketchup. The boy had been beating like a maniac on the drum, but stopped abruptly, here, when Loretta told him her real name is.

2.On a romantic date, you’ll watch the sun go down and think “Wow this is gorgeous” and they’ll go “mirror lock, tripod, and stop down f/8 at 1/4 second.”

3.You’ll never be able to enjoy tv, movies, or magazines because they’ll point out all the visual flaws.

4.They like to sit in obscure coffee shop and voyeuristically watch people for great lengths of time.

5.If you’re taking a walk outside and you come across some “interesting light” they will make you sit/stand/pose in public so that they can take a photo.

6.You’ll never get to enjoy freshly cooked meals because they’ll spend 15 minutes taking 20 variations of the same dish with their iPhone.

7.They get angry when your friends go up to them and say “I am interested in photography, can you recommend a good camera for me? Nothing professional I just want to take pretty pictures.”

8.You’ll wait longer for them to finish analyzing art in a museum than you’ll wait at the dmv

9.Same goes with old used bookstores.

10.When you think they’re giving you their undivided attention, they’re really wondering how they could fix you with a little Clone Tool and Patch Tool.

11.Or they are actually using you to not look so creepy as they people watch everything going on around you.

12.They rather drop €1,000 on new glass than a purse for you.

13.You can’t take a photo with them without taking at least five more.

14.If you ask them if you look fat, they’ll say “don’t worry I can photoshop you later.”

15.They’ll never photoshop something simple for you if the content is not up to their “standards.”

16.That photo they randomly took of you yesterday? Good luck getting them to send it to you.

17.They spend all their time on the computer (and not for porn.)

18.They can’t have a normal conversation with throwing acronyms and random numbers.

19.They still use film cameras.

20.They spend a lot of time with people cooler than you i.e. models, actors, musicians, successful rich people.

21.They’ll be fussy over the position of a common household object, like a coffee cup.

22.They won’t return your calls or text messages, but you can bet they’re still posting pics on Instagram.

23.They like watching old films that you’ve never heard or will ever understand.

24.They like looking at weird things in general.

25.Instead of having penis-envy, they have camera-gear-envy.

26.If there’s a natural disaster in a far away land, they’re already on a plane going over there.

27.Everything is watermarked.

28.They think everyone else’s photos suck.

29.They want to color correct a lot of scenes from Twilight and Jersey Shore.

30.They hate rainbows, especially ones spinning in a circle.

31.Whenever you’re in a group talking and the conversation goes deep, they’re taking notes in some form of Moleskin.

32.They use over priced Moleskin notebooks.

33.They like trespassing into old abandoned buildings filled with health hazards.

34.They always want to show a new photo they took, but don’t really care if you like it or not.

35.They hate your n00bie friend’s new artsy profile picture.

36.Bright, sunny days make them sad, but cloudy, overcast days are apparently great!

37.They’ll take you into places that have “culture” as well a high chance of getting mugged.

38.Your birthday present will be a portrait that they’ve taken of you.

39.You can’t go anywhere new without them stopping to take a photo of everything and anything.

40.They will always bug you to be a test subject.

41.Nothing can ever be naturally pretty, everything must be fixed in Photoshop.

42.Bringing their camera means, bringing 20kg of equipment.

43.If you break any of their things on accident, you’ll owe them thousands of dollars.

44.You can’t get them a birthday/Christmas present without spending at least €500

45.They are natural hoarders, collecting and keeping piles of old newspapers, packaging, magazines, and other things that “inspire” them.

46.They are weird and geeky.

47.They have hard drives of photos, but probably have printed 10 images.

48.They are always secretly judging your creativity.

49.If you’re ever in auto mode, they laugh at you.

50.They orgasm every time they learn a new lighting technique.

The Inflatable Photo Studio ($495) is the invention of photographer Brian Hedenberg who, like other photogs, is always on the search of finding solutions to weather, lighting. and other exposure-killing factors. The IPS inflates in under 5 minutes to create a 6m x 3m x 13m (lwh) studio complete with re-inforced flooring. It weighs just 10kg and packs down to just 100cm x 140cm x 40cm. IPS will be happy to create you a custom version as well. No guarantees you won’t get some curious looks when you inflate it in the middle of the Meir.*Via Gear Patrol Blog
